1999 mercury mystique drum brake diagram

hey this is another video by pet rock. todayi'm working on my wife's '98 ford mustang. it's a 3.8l v6. today it needs and oil &filterchange. it just rolled over i think 165 thousand miles i think. it's a fairly simple job. itsa fairly simple job. it should only take you maybe tops a half hour if you take your time.ok, once you have the car up in the air it's a good idea to remove the oil filler cap andalso at least pull the oil dip stick. the

1999 mercury mystique drum brake diagra, reason for that is that when you pull theoil plug in the oil pan you don't want the engine to be a sealed system. you want airto get in so that the oil will come out. next we move underneath the car. so the drain plugis on the passenger side of the motor right here. i already cracked it so that i coulddo the rest of this with one hand cause my
tripod is too big. anyway, so you get a 15mmsocket and spin this off. get it off most of the way until it's pretty much free spinningand then with your hand carefully remove the plug. and hopefully you angled your pan underneathsuch that the oil goes into it. so now you just wait fro the oil to come out until it'sbasically just dripping. one trick you might want to try is that since the oil hole isactually inset behind this plate the oil is just going to hit the plate and pool on theplate and spill where ever you want, where ever it wants. so one thing i like to do istake a piece of paper towel and basically turn it into a funnel so that it will go intomy pan once it starts to get to the drippy part. so what you can do while you're waitingfor the oil to drain out is to basically give
your motor a good once over. check the fluidsin the brake master cylinder, which is right there. you should also check the coolant level.you should also check the condition of your serpentine belt. make sure it's not crackedor anything like that. check the fluid on the power steering fluid and things like that.just give your motor a good once over. so it's also a good idea while you have the carup in the air is to wiggle your tires making sure the tie rods are good and the ball bear, bearings are good. things like that. if you have grease-able ball joints this would bethe time to do it. if you have grease-able sway bar bushings like i do this would bethe time to do it. things like that. just give you car a good once over. ok so now i'mdown to just little drips. so just wipe off
any surrounding area and insert the drainplug by hand. making sure not to cross thread it because this oil pan is just aluminum.so you can easily cross thread. once you've got it in by hand just loosely you can starttightening it down with a wrench. you just want to snug it down. you don't need to killit. so that's about it. next we are going to move to the oil filter. the oil filteris located on the drivers side of the motor, front drivers side of the motor right hereis the harmonic balancer. it's very easy to get to. there is not really anything underneathit. when you do get to drop it there isn't going to be much oil getting all over theplace just underneath directly. so you attach an oil filter wrench and just crack it. onceyou've got it cracked then you can spin it
by hand. and you slowly spin it until it startsto drip getting your pan underneath it. keep spinning it until it stops dripping so youdon't make as much of a mess. sometimes it will drip down the side of the filter as well.in this case i got lucky and it did not. so keep spinning it off by hand and that's it.a little bit of oil will come out and there obviously will be oil in the filter as wellso you want to be wary of that. now you just wait for the oil to drip out of the, dripout of the filter housing. ok so it's pretty much dripped itself out so you just take arag or paper towel and wipe off the surface. you want to make sure that there is no leftovergasket from the old oil filter. if you do see it just scrape it off with a scraper orsomething like that. next you get your oil
filter, you get a little bit of oil and justput it around the rubber gasket at the top. just get a nice good coating on it. i alsolike to take a little bit and put it on the threads on the center of the filter just tomake it so it's easier to get it on and off. now i'm going to screw on the filter justby hand. so you just need to spin the filter by hand until it stops. until it comes incontact with the filter housing. and then you take your oil filter wrench and you turnit about 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn. so there's a quarter. one half. somewhere in the middleof 3/4. and that's it. you don't need, you don't want to tighten it on until it hurts.you don't want to squish the little rubber gasket and make it cause an oil leak. nextwe move back up to the top and we start filling
the motor back up with oil. fill it throughthe fill hole on the side of the valve cover on the drivers side. this motor takes fivequarts of 5w-30 oil. just pour it right in. just let it all drain in and do that 4 moretimes. so one trick you can you can use to make the oil pour out faster from the jugis if your motor's hot you can place the oil around in different spots to heat it up alittle bit so it will flow out of the bottle a little quicker. if the motor is cold likeit is in this case, set your oven to like maybe 100 degrees and then put them in theoven for like 5 minutes not even and then they will be nice and warm and they will pourout into the motor a lot quicker and you'll get done a lot faster. for example i use syntheticoil and so it can get a little bit pricey
so try to get as much of the oil out of thebottle as you can. you don't want to leave any inside. so the more you can get out ofit on the initial pour the better. ok once you've got all five quarts in don't forgetto put your filler cap back on. let it click a couple times. push the oil dipstick backall the way in it's hole. ok, so now you just start the car. let it idle for a little while.for five or so minutes and then you check for leaks in the area that you, areas thatyou touched so check to make sure that the oil filter is not leaking and check to makesure that the drain plug is not leaking and you're pretty much good to go. clean up anyspills or drips in areas where you may have gotten oil on and you're good to go. so hopefullythis video was helpful to you. hopefully you
